Making Money Online - Getting
Organized
Being organised is one of the main factors in life, no matter what direction you take. A very small example is
that if you intend to have a bowl of cereal for breakfast, you will make sure that you have in (a. milk - b. cereal
- c. a bowl - d. a spoon).
Sounds silly doesn’t it, but in your sub-consciousness, by ensuring you have these ingredients and tools you are
being organized.
Firstly you need to find a small area somewhere to set up your little office space. Make sure you have enough
room for a desk; room for a little bit of filing, a computer with Internet Connection, telephone, etc.
You should try to keep this area free from any distractions, so that you can spend your allocated time working
on your projects.
Another area of great importance for those of us wanting to work from home and earn a living Making Money
Online is dedicated allotted time to the project in hand.
This means educating both friends and family that the time you have set aside for your projects, is precisely
that! In my early days of working from home (and not making a living), my friends and family seemed to think,
Peter’s home, so why don’t we pop round and have a coffee!
This was all very nice, people wanted to actually spend some time with me, but I learnt very fast, that this was
not going to get the project completed within my time schedule.
After a short time, I fast realized that I needed to educate all my friends and family that just because I was
home, it does not mean I was not working.
This also works the same for yourself, back in my early years of working from home, I had a dog called James and
I quite often felt blow it, let’s stop work and take James for a nice walk.
I was wrong – again I fast learnt that this lack of self discipline did not help towards achieving my goals. I
learnt very early on, that I also needed to train myself into this work at home, work ethic.
In other words, you need to set yourself targets and hourly routines, otherwise nothing ever gets done. Of course
you can set the targets and routines to work around your own needs.
But you must learn to set them, and stick to them. It is so easy to say, no its ok, Phillip and Linda can come
round for an hour for a quick catch up.
Realistically if you were working for a company this would not happen, so it shouldn’t happen just because you
are working from home.
Another area of being organized is keeping notes and detailed records. This is a very important part of working
for yourself, firstly from a legal point, secondly for a fiscal point of view, and lastly for your sanity.
When you start working for yourself full time, because you are Making Money Online and earning lots
of cash from the Internet, you still have to pay your taxes, etc, so you need to keep accurate financial
records, both on spreadsheet and printed backup.
This includes all your costs and all your earnings.
Secondly from the fiscal (costs) point of view, as your little empire starts to grow, because you are always
looking for the best deal for Hosting, Autoresponder and other internet services, you will subscribe to let’s say,
monthly payments for one hosting company, then again for another.
If you don’t keep accurate records of when these payments fall due, you will become overloaded with panic and
tension, and monies are being withdrawn from your accounts, and you cannot remember why.
In my early days, I had so many web hosting companies taking out their little bit of revenue each month, I
actually forget one. It was only a small amount (around $6 per month), I had completely forgotten about this, which
meant I was paying $6 per month for about three months, and I had not even used it.
$18 dollars loss doesn’t sound much, but when you are starting out, it all adds up. So keeping records is a
vital part of your future success.
